Dr. Bernstein graduated from Keck USC School of Medicine in 1988, completed an internship in orthopaedics at the University of South Florida, and a residency in orthopaedics in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program, graduating in 1993. He completed a pediatric orthoapedic fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and a spine fellowship at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

 

He moved to Los Angeles and was on staff at the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital from 1994-2001 and the Assistant Chief of Staff from 1998-2001. In 2000 he was one of the inaugural POSNA/Sofamor Danek Traveling Fellows to the Far East. He moved to Cedars-Sinai and was director of pediatric orthopaedics. In 2010 he moved to the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York as the Chief of Pediatric Orthoapedics. He returned to Cedars-Sinai in 2012 and is the Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Center and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Orthopaedics.

 

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the Scoliosis Research Society as well as the American Orthopaedic Association. He specializes in spinal deformity and skeletal dysplasias and lectures nationally and internationally. He teaches pediatric orthopaedics in the developing world with his MoPOEd (Mobile Pediatric Orthopaedic Education) program.
