Dr. Nirupama Bonthala recently joined the Inflammatory Bowel Disease faculty in the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in fall of 2016.

 

She received her Bachelor’s degree from New York University (NYU) and medical degree at University of Texas – Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.   She completed her internal medicine residency at University of Illinois Chicago and her general gastroenterology fellowship at University of Southern California.  She received additional training in an advanced fellowship specializing in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) here at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center. After completing her fellowship, she was

recruited to stay on as faculty.

 

Dr. Bonthala’s clinical practice focuses on the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis), and her particular specialty within this field is pregnancy and women’s health. Towards

that end, Dr. Bonthala has teamed with the high-risk obstetrics Maternal-Fetal Medicine

division to provide a subspecialty clinic to help women with IBD be better informed about the

effects of pregnancy on their disease and future offspring as well as supporting women

throughout the process. Her research interests include outcomes of pregnancy in the IBD

population and predictors of successful pregnancies in women with IBD.
