Overview
This engaging everything-you-need-to-know-about-simulation-based-training will provide participants with evidence-based presentations that explore how simulation is an innovative tool for learning and training as well as for assessment of performance. From simulation center assessment versus virtual reality as a platform of assessment to why health care systems should build and support simulation centers…. Participants will explore how simulation training can enhance technical and functional expertise, contribute to problem-solving and decision-making skills, and improve interpersonal and communication skills and team-based competencies. Join your colleagues for this 1-day adventure into the future of simulation and learn how evidence-based practices can be put into action through protocols and collaborative approaches that can then be practiced using simulation scenarios. We have a diverse esteemed group of national and international faculty and hope to give you a preview into the “Crystal ball of Simulation” from our experts.

Objectives
  1. Integrate simulation training across complex health systems
  2. Recognize the role that simulation offers as a medium for change in interprofessional education
  3. Explore the benefits of broad engagement among clinical and ancillary department personnel
  4. Expand the understand of simulation as a methadology

Russell D. Metcalfe-Smith, FHEA, MSc, NRP, CHSE-A, CHSOS, leverages his years of innovative healthcare leadership within some of the world's largest hospital systems to help healthcare systems make bold strategic decisions, reduce costs and improve patient care. As a senior leader, he has developed and put into practice transformative services in the international healthcare sector.

From his early days as a registered paramedic and a head of resuscitation services in the United Kingdom, he learned how to maximize outcomes with few resources and little time. This fueled extensive research into more effective solutions, processes and procedures. He gained experience within-hospital acute care, mental health, primary care and emergency care in Europe—and more recently in the U.S. e then delivered innovative training programs to international healthcare officials and clinicians, developing a world view of healthcare. Such exposure broadens perspectives, offering innovative approaches to change.

Pooja Nawathe, MD, CHSE-A, CHSOS is a pediatric cardiac intensivist by background. She has been a strong simulation enthusiast since her junior faculty years and has conducted several simulation training courses at Cedars Sinai Medical center for the pediatric critical care medicine group. She is actively engaged in several Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and Society of Critical Care Medicine committees. Her research interests are interprofessional education and rapid cycle deliberate practice. She teaches basic CPR skills to elementary school children at one of the LA Unified School district charter schools as a volunteer. Pooja is devoted to making the simulation education transform patient care and discover new best practices and evidence-based research opportunities.

Russell D. Metcalfe-Smith and Pooja Nawathe are two of the four people internationally to hold both the CHSE-A and CHSOS certification from the SSH demonstrating leadership in simulation.
