Overview
Stroke continues to be the leading cause of long-term disability. This course will focus on the latest research and clinical advances impacting the acute management and rehabilitation of stroke patients, including research in the fields of neuroscience and motor learning. Practical applications and evidence surrounding specific interventions will be discussed. Topics will include new interventions in acute stroke care; neuroimaging, ICU care; biomarkers in stroke recovery and updates in rehabilitation. A unique feature of this year's program is a point-counterpoint panel discussion on the future of stroke rehabilitation. A brief literature review will be included and as always, the patient perspective will be an important element of the program.

Objectives
  1. Describe key components of emergency stroke care that should occur within the first hour of a stroke
  2. Summarize best available evidence on and issues surrounding current interventions used in the stroke rehabilitation
  3. Compare the benefits and limitations in using current available technology in the rehabilitation of stroke patients
  4. Integrate patient-centered care principles through the full continuum of stroke recovery
