Overview

Marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the Nuremberg Doctors’ Trial and the announcement of the Nuremberg Code, this symposium brings together an international and interdisciplinary array of scholars to discuss the history and legacy of the Trial and Code and to consider current legal cases connected to medical professionals’ participation in torture and nonconsensual medical experimentation. While the symposium’s three panels explore topics connected to physicians’ roles as perpetrators of war crimes and human rights violations, the keynote presentation examines health professionals in alternate roles: victims and documenters. After a day focused on the past and the present, the afternoon presentation turns toward the future, as it describes how history can be used to foster ethical leadership among the medical professionals of tomorrow.

Target Audience
Medical professionals of all specialties, medical students, medical educators, lawyers, law students, ethicists, legal scholars, human rights activists, historians, as well as all who have an interest in the subject matter
