Overview
This two-hour course features interactive videos and gamification to enrich the learning experience. It explains the behaviors that are expected of individuals to create a workplace that is free of discrimination and harassment, discusses the responsibilities of supervisory employees, and examines several other relevant and timely harassment-related topics. This course was designed to comply with state requirements for supervisory-employee training. This training is intended for Medical Staff, Faculty Physicians and Non-faculty Physicians. This training is required every 2 years by the State of California.

Objectives
  1. Define and explain the concepts of sexual harassment, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in the workplace
  2. Identify and classify behaviors that are considered inappropriate in a professional setting
  3. Describe the appropriate steps to take when experiencing workplace misconduct
  4. Summarize the potential consequences of engaging in workplace misconduct
  5. Analyze the role of active bystanders and evaluate various methods of bystander intervention in workplace situations
  6. Apply behaviors that contribute to creating and maintaining a respectful workplace environment
  7. Differentiate between the responsibilities of employees and managers in preventing and addressing workplace misconduct
  8. Demonstrate the proper procedure for responding to and handling complaints of misconduct
  9. Explain the manager's duty to prevent retaliation and outline strategies to fulfill this obligation
  10. Interpret and apply the protections provided by California laws regarding workplace harassment and discrimination

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Cedars-Sinai is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

AMA Credit Designation Statement
Cedars-Sinai designates this Enduring Material for a maximum of 2.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Non-Physician AMA Attendance
Attendance credit will be provided to other healthcare professionals upon the fulfillment of attendance requirements. Participants should ensure in advance that their credentialing or licensing organization accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

To access the course:

1) Log in to your Cedars-Sinai MyPortal account to access HealthStream.

2) There are two editions of the course in HealthStream.  To find yours:

  • Managers: The "FY25 Preventing Discrimination and Harassment Training 2-Hour - CS" has already been assigned and will be found in your "To Do" list.
  • Medical Staff:  Search the HealthStream Catalog for "Medical Staff Services – Preventing Discrimination and Harassment 2-Hour Course - CS" and self-enroll.

3) Select the lesson and follow the prompts to "Start" and complete all modules.

4) A link to claim credit will become available in the last HealthStream module after completing the course.  You will need to log in to the CME Portal to claim credit.  Return to HealthStream to re-access the claim credit link, if needed after login to the CME Portal.
