Overview

The F. Widjaja Inflammatory Bowel Disease Institute 2026 IBD & Women’s Health Conference: Living with IBD—Women’s Health and Hormones at Every Stage is a CME conference dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by women living with IBD.


Objectives
  1. Describe how hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause influence inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) activity and symptom presentation.
  2. Explain the role of intestinal ultrasound in assessing disease activity and guiding real time treatment decisions in IBD management.
  3. Evaluate current evidence linking nutrition, obesity, and metabolic health to IBD outcomes and inflammation.
  4. Recognize the impact of IBD activity and medications on conception, pregnancy outcomes, and family planning choices.
  5. Identify contraception options that are safe and effective for women with IBD, including how disease activity and therapies influence contraceptive choice.
  6. Define the concept of the invisible load and describe how gender specific psychosocial stressors impact disease activity, mental health, and treatment adherence in women with IBD.
  7. Discuss autoimmune clustering in women and recognize how overlapping rheumatologic and dermatologic disorders influence diagnostic complexity and treatment planning in IBD.
  8. Diagnose pouch related dysfunction in postsurgical female patients and differentiate common complications from inflammatory recurrence.
  9. Differentiate IBS like symptoms from true inflammatory activity in women with IBD.
  10. Incorporate safe, effective complementary therapies into comprehensive IBD care plans based on patient preferences and clinical needs.
  11. Demonstrate effective collaborative approaches among gastroenterologists, dermatologists, reproductive specialists, psychiatristspsychologists, nurse practitioners, dieticians and other allied health professionals to improve coordination of care, shared decision making and patient centered outcomes.
