Overview

Advancing Care in Parkinsons Disease and Related Movement Disorders Parkinsons disease (PD) is not only the most common movement disorder, but also one of the fastest-growing neurological conditions worldwide. According to the Parkinsons Foundation, nearly one million people in the United States are currently living with PD, and approximately 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. In addition to PD, a range of other movement disorders including essential tremor, dystonia, Huntingtons disease, and atypical parkinsonian syndromes present ongoing and complex challenges for clinicians and patients alike. Because these disorders are highly variable in presentation and progression, individualized and multidisciplinary care is essential. In particular, Parkinsons disease requires tailored treatment strategies that address both motor and non-motor symptoms while adapting to each patients unique needs over time. To address these challenges, expert faculty will review current advances in the diagnosis and management of movement disorders, with a primary focus on Parkinsons disease. The program will highlight both established and emerging medical and surgical therapies aimed at improving symptom control, slowing disease progression, and enhancing overall quality of life. Additional topics will include the management of cognitive, behavioral, autonomic, and psychiatric symptoms, as well as the impact of nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and psychosocial support on comprehensive patient care. Through interactive discussion and evidence-based updates, participants will gain practical tools and clinical insights to improve outcomes for patients across the spectrum of movement disorders. This educational activity is intended for a multidisciplinary audience, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, physiatrists (PM&R), internists, and primary care physicians. The program will also be valuable for nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, allied health professionals, and neurology residents and fellows, as well as other healthcare providers involved in the care of individuals with Parkinsons disease and related movement disorders.

Objectives
  1. Recognize the clinical presentation, management and progression of Parkinsons disease and other movement disorders
  2. Assess available therapies for the management of motor and nonmotor symptoms of Parkinsons disease dystonia and essential tremor
  3. Evaluate ongoing and emerging research in Parkinsons disease and the implications for emerging therapeutic options
  4. Guide patients and caregivers in making key treatment decisions in Parkinsons disease or other movement disorders.
  5. Review the promise and benefits of Remote Therapeutic Management of Parkinson's patients
