Receive 12.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and 10 MOC credits from the ACG

YOU’VE SEEN THE BOOKS, NOW TAKE THE COURSE! A THIRD THE TIME, A THIRD THE COST, AND THRICE THE LEARNING.

Based on the best-selling board review textbook series written by the conference speakers, this interactive didactic experience is developed to meet the educational needs of practicing gastroenterologists and gastroenterology Fellows who wish to test their knowledge of specific GI topics in preparation for earning points toward the American Board of Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, or who simply want to improve their knowledge of gastrointestinal diseases and disorders and enhance the quality of their practice. The course will follow the blueprint developed by ABIM. Each content category – esophagus, stomach/duodenum, liver, biliary tract, pancreas, small intestine and colon – will explore anatomy, development, function/physiology; symptoms/clinical presentation; and the diseases and disorders in each. In collaboration with the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), participants will have the option of earning up to 20 MOC points with successful completion of the ACG’s Self-Assessment modules. A distinguishing feature of this conference is the fact that the course content is delivered over the course of only a day and half. The course directors for this conference recognized that long and detailed discussions that are not directly relevant to board and re-certification exams should be eliminated. Conversely, many board review manuals provide lists and bullet points that lack sufficient background and context. To address the needs of busy gastroenterologists, this conference will present high-yield information in the most rational, relevant, and contextually appropriate format.  This is a time-tested approach that had led to wide dissemination and success of the speakers’ own textbook series, which will serve as a blueprint for this new educational offering.

Objectives
  1. Identify risk factors for and apply strategies to prevent gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders
  2. Retain and apply clinical “pearls” to diagnose complex GI disorders and identify and integrate therapeutic options based on pathophysiology, classification, guidelines, and best clinical practice recommendations
  3. Demonstrate competence in certification and recertification exams in gastroenterology as required by the American Board of Internal Medicine

Additional Information

FAQ

Does the course follow the books exactly?

Pretty closely, but not exactly.  The course is taught by the authors of the best-selling "Acing the GI Board Exam" series of books, so you can be sure that the course will carefully follow the content in the books.  But there is only so much we can cover in 1.5 days, so we will not go through every single page of the 3-book series.  Instead, it will help to review the books both before and after the course to reinforce material and cover other vignettes we won't cover in the course.  In addition, we will cover some material not found in the books. Since GI and hepatology is constantly changing, it's important that we keep up-to-date with the material we teach in the course.  Some material is not yet found in our books, so there is not a perfect 1-to-1 correlation between the books and the course.  Still, they bear close resemblance, and the course is an excellent way to reinforce the lessons in the books. We modify the course annually to enhance learning. In addition to the new book coming out this year, SLACK also has a Acing online question bank for more educational opportunities.

Do I get a discount on the books if I enroll in the course?

Yes, once you have registered please email [email protected] with your full name and email used to register for the course and we will email you the links to the books and code for a 35% discount. Books will also be available to purchase on-site at the course.

Is the ACG MOC module included in the course?

Yes and no.  We will review each and every question of the 2015 ACG MOC module throughout the course, but you can only get MOC credit from the ACG if you pay a separate fee to the ACG.

In other words, we will give you all the answers whether you pay the extra ACG fee or not.  If you want the 10 MOC points you'll need to buy those from the ACG using the correct answers we'll provide during the course.

The cost is $50 for ACG members and $100 for non-members. For more information about the ACG module visit this website: www.sapmoc.gi.org
