Overview
The 11th Annual Neurovascular Symposium will provide clinical updates and best practices for the diagnosis and identification of neurovascular emergencies and the strategies for optimal treatment and management of high-risk patients. Following an update on American Heart Association guidelines, content will explore identifying neurological emergencies such as severe headache, TIA, timing for a “Code Brain” call, and neuro-ophthalmological issues. Content on acute blockages, including small and large vessel strokes and posterior circulation stroke is covered along with topics that address acute bleeds, including high risk neurological conditions such as carotid blowout syndrome and epistaxis and SAH. Headaches will provide details on migraine emergencies, venous sinus stenosis, and the program will conclude with case studies in management. Expert faculty will present cutting-edge diagnosis, treatment, and management strategies to support healthcare professionals in delivering optimal care to patients with high-risk neurovascular events. Designed to encourage participation and discussion, this one-day
conference provides an interdisciplinary approach using didactic lectures, case presentations, and audience polling.

Objectives
  1. Describe recent American Stroke Association updates to the 2018 AHA/ASA guidelines for the early management of stroke
  2. Increase knowledge of stroke assessment and apply the timeline for emergent care of ischemic stroke to help minimize its effects
  3. Distinguish between migraine or severe headache disorders and headaches that could be symptomatic of other more serious conditions
  4. Describe recent recommendations for diagnosis and management of pediatric neurovascular emergencies
  5. Discuss neuroophthalmological emergencies and the strategies that can be applied to prevent or mitigate vision or lifethreatening conditions when promptly undertaken
  6. Identify vascular anatomical variations in patients with acute blockages and the clinical differences that may affect stroke severity and presenting signs and symptoms
  7. List current evaluation strategies for patients presenting with transient ischemic attacks, including crescendo TIAs
  8. Use evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and clinical management of neurological emergencies, including strokes and bleeds
  9. Diagnose secondary headaches and describe the principals involved in distinguishing primary from secondary based on patient history and clinical symptoms
