Overview
This RSS will provide participants with practical approaches to the management of pain and issues of prescription drug misuse and addiction. The sessions will focus on the challenge of pain management for healthcare professionals across the healthcare continuum and encourage discussion and exchange of best practices in providing patients with evidence-based strategies for assessing and managing pain in various settings. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion, case studies, and inter-professional dialogue with the goal of enhancing understanding of mechanisms of action, diagnostic approaches and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment and management strategies.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the importance of safe and effective pain management practices and evaluate other multimodule options that might be utilized for treating pain
  2. Apply acquired knowledge of various treatment approaches and anticipate questions when counseling patients seeking pain management solutions
  3. Critically review emerging technical and pharmacological advances in anesthesia and apply strategies that permit the safe implemtnation of new technology, drugs and techniques into clinical practice
  4. Discuss anesthetic/intubation challenges and demonstrate through didactics and simulation what would be the best anesthetic/technical solution for management patients who present with these problems
  5. Analyze the latest advances in anesthesia and assess the relevance of these new developments in patients with surgical needs
  6. Analyze the latest advances in pain management and assess the relevance of these new developments in patients with surgical needs
  7. Analyze the latest advances in blood transfusion management and assess the relevance of these new developments in patients with surgical needs

Accreditation

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
