Overview
The Rheumatology Grand Rounds is designed to provide physicians and health care practitioners including those that provide primary care to their patients with up-to-date information on how to recognize, diagnose, treat, and follow rheumatologic conditions. This activity will emphasize early diagnosis, identification of risk factors for prognosis, intervention early rather than later, and recognition of side effects or toxicities related to treatment strategies. In addition to the very practical aspects of patient diagnosis and management, we will provide speakers who will address the pathogenesis and genetic risk for chronic rheumatic diseases as well as identify the comorbidities that accompany our diseases. Most importantly these lecture topics will address pathologic mechanisms of disease that form the basis not only for disease recognition in the earliest stages but also provide insights into mechanisms of damage and the possibilities of disease prevention. This series is intended for Cedars-Sinai healthcare professionals.

Objectives
  1. Differentiate psoriasis from other diseases after patient evaluation and recognize the comorbidities associated with it. Understand new approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Understand underlying processes contributing to development of osteoporosis and the integration of new therapeutics into patient care.
  3. Identify arthritis and rheumatic diseases in their early stages with the possibility of treating reversible aspects and preventing damage long term.
  4. Manage the pain of rheumatic diseases taking into consideration co-morbidities of the patients, risks of drug treatments and their side effects, and the use of non-drug strategies when appropriate.
  5. Implement strategies of disease management by identifying genetic and biomarkers of disease prognosis that will predict both long and short-term outcomes. Evaluate strategies for identifying markers of disease susceptibility; both genetic and environmental, that will incorporate the best practices into the clinical care of patients with joint complaints.
