Overview

Five online educational interventions were developed to address the needs of women and their offspring who are at high-risk for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders due to multiple and cumulative stressors. Highly treatable and often preventable, perinatal depress and related mood disorders are often not diagnosed due to lack of screening or treatment. Untreated maternal depress impairs the health development of infants and young children and can lead to other serious negative consequences.

Suicide is the leading cause of death during the perinatal period. This course discusses statistics, risk factors, warning signs, screening tools, risk assessment, safety plans and other tools and resources to address suicide before and after childbirth. The course includes personal accounts and case studies of suicidal ideation and suicide.  Course fee:  $40.00

Objectives
  1. Identify how feelings of suicide impact women in the perinatal period
  2. Name risk factors and protective factors in relation to suicidality in the perinatal period
  3. Describe the CS-RRS (Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale) and other suicide screening tools and discuss ways they may be implemented
