Overview
Orthopaedic trauma involves serious injuries to bones and joints, including complex fractures and dislocations that can result in complications. These potentially limb-threatening or life-altering injuries are commonly the result of high-energy trauma from car accidents, falls, sporting activities and industrial accidents, and require critical decision-making strategies for immediate care and surgical interventions. The 11th Annual Los Angeles Orthopedic Trauma Symposium: Fracture Problems in the Real World will present the latest operative and non-operative techniques and strategies used in the care of patients with complex upper and lower extremity injuries. Morning sessions will address fractures of the wrist and hand, forearm and elbow, clavicle and humerus. Afternoon sessions will explore foot and ankle fractures, tibia, femur and hip, as well as the importance of managing expectations in rehabilitation. Each of the four sessions is followed by ample time for questions, discussion, and interaction with faculty. Join your colleagues and expert faculty on October 12, 2019 to enhance your skills and performance in practice in identifying and classifying orthopaedic injuries and developing immediate diagnostic and treatment plans for your orthopaedic trauma patients.

Objectives
  1. Discuss emerging technologies and methodologies in the management of upper-extremity and lower-extremity fractures
  2. Recognize the mechanism of injury and surgical approaches used to treat distal clavicle and clavicle shaft injuries
  3. Explain the benefits of operative and nonoperative management for tibia and ankle fractures and the indications for surgical management
  4. Recognize distal humerus fracture patterns and select the optimal plating application or identify other surgical or non-surgical approaches to treatment
  5. Apply orthopedic trauma assessment principles for hip and femur fractures and evaluate surgical intervention options for fracture stabilization and treatment
  6. Summarize the mechansims and goals of physical and occupational therapy for common injuries.
