Overview
The 3rd Annual Updates on Neuroimmunology Conference for Professionals and Patients will focus on neuroimmunology and demyelinating disorders. Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), generally referred to as NMO, a rare group of disease syndromes of the central nervous system that affect the optic nerves and spinal cord is often misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis (MS), another demyelinating disorder. Accordingly, program content will explore the differences and distinctions between MS and NMO, including new diagnostic criteria, visual outcomes, pregnancy, and neuropsychological implications. This one-day program will also present content in pediatric neuroimmunological disorders and treatment algorithms. Led by expert faculty, you will learn about these rare and challenging disorders and the importance of a careful diagnosis and early intervention using the latest medical approaches. Morning and afternoon panels will provide ample time for clarification of clinical points and encourage interaction between participants and presenters. A unique feature of this program is a concurrent patient education program conducted in collaboration with the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation.

Objectives
  1. Describe the new diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD)
  2. Summarize the clinical presentation and differential diagnoses of demyelinating disorders including NMOSD and MS
  3. Recognize the potential severity of relapses and other unique issues to address with NMO and MS patients who are pregnant or considering pregnancy
  4. Identify pediatric presentations of neuroimmunological disorders based on a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between central nervous and immune systems
  5. Consider race and ethnicity for patients presenting with neuroimmunological disorders and describe the implications for individualized care
  6. Explore the neuropsychological impacts in patients with MS and NMO based on the latest research
  7. Analyze current treatment algorithms and formulate strategies for the treatment of patients with demyelinating diseases
  8. Describe recent visual outcomes in MS and NMO and the implications for patient care
