Overview

A partnership between primary care physicians and rheumatologists plays a critical role in identifying situations that require immediate care and support optimal long-term patient management. This one-day symposium is designed to provide family practice physicians, internists or those who provide primary care with up-to-date information on how to recognize, diagnose, treat, and follow common rheumatologic conditions. A comprehensive presentation on new treatment approaches in rheumatic diseases will open the conference, followed by topics in fertility, cardiovascular risks and pain management in rheumatic diseases. Using a case-based format, our expert faculty will provide participants with evidence-based guidance in the treatment and management of statin myopathy, gout and calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD), and osteoporosis, among others.

The afternoon program features multiple breakout sessions that provide attendees with hands-on opportunities to work with experts in addressing fibromyalgia, lab testing and rheumatic diseases, joint exams/injections, ultrasound and gout. Breakout sessions will also provide clinical updates in osteoporosis management, R A treatment guidelines, and back pain and ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

Objectives
  1. Discuss the latest advances in treatment approaches and therapeutic options for patients with rheumatic diseases
  2. Recognize differences in crystal-induced arthropathies and the implications for treatment of Gout and CPPD (pseudogout)
  3. Consider the use of CBD oil and other new pain modalities when developing pain management and treatment plans for patients with rheumatic conditions
  4. Create treatment plans for patients with rheumatoid arthritis that aligns with the most current evidence-based guidelines
  5. Assess the impact of psoriatic arthritis and anticipate the potential need to switch or augment therapy
  6. Review diagnostic evaluation of patients with osteoporosis and discuss the treatment strategies that could be applied in practice
  7. Develop strategies for addressing fertility and sexuality issues for patients with inflammatory diseases
