Specialties - Gastroenterology, Imaging, Internal Medicine, Radiology

Overview
For the 27th year, this signature course will offer an intensive and comprehensive review of pancreatic and biliary endoscopy for the benefit of gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and gastroenterology nurses and technicians. Invited expert faculty will perform multiple live luminal endoscopy, EUS and ERCP procedures to demonstrate techniques and technology for the benefit of participants watching the live feed in the Cedars-Sinai auditorium. Participants will be provided with a list of the various cases and are encouraged to ask questions about what they are viewing through the session moderator. The 2020 symposium opens with the 4th Advanced Luminal Endoscopy program with live procedure demonstrations on Thursday with presentations covering endoscopic interventions for IBD and esophageal conditions, innovations in endoscopy and endoscopic closure and stapling content. The Friday program offers a mini-symposium on radiation safety and fluoroscopy in the morning with a concurrent session that will reinforce skills and offer more personalized educational content in hands-on workshops designed for GI Fellows and GI nurses. On Friday afternoon, the 27th International Biliary Symposium on Pancreatic & Biliary Endoscopy kicks off with a literature review and exploration of novel techniques and devices followed by multiple live ERCP and EUS demonstrations from the Cedars-Sinai GI Unit. In addition to the live procedure video feeds on Saturday and Sunday, symposium faculty will present content on new approaches and the latest and most relevant information on pancreatic and biliary endoscopy using a variety of traditional formats, including lectures, panel discussions, case review, and Q&A. Balanced viewpoints, special techniques, and practical clinical approaches will be highlighted throughout the program. Our renowned international faculty will bring their unique knowledge and excitement to share with you on January 30 – February 2, 2020.

Objectives
  1. Recognize patient- and procedure-related risk factors associated with ERCP and implement evidence-based patient safety measures to optimize outcomes
  2. Critically evaluate complex and challenging ERCP cases and discuss optimal approaches to patient management and avoiding complications
  3. Assess endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for managing patients with gastrointestinal, pancreaticobiliary and hepatic diseases
  4. Distinguish and select the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment approach for patients with luminal gastrointestinal issues
  5. Apply best practices to minimize patient radiation dose during fluoroscopy and avoid the chance of skin injury during extended fluoroscopic procedures (radiation safety)
  6. Identify current surgical and medical treatment and management strategies for the patient with pancreatic cancer
  7. Adopt a multidisciplinary approach to treatment planning for patients with gastric cancer prior to clinical decision-making
  8. Assess current and emerging diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in GI endoscopy and how best to implement best practices in the endoscopy suite (GI nurses and technicians)
  9. Enhance knowledge of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of digestive diseases for which endoscopic procedures are indicated and assess techniques and technologies currently utilized in the field (Fellows)
  10. Explore training, research, and career opportunities for interventional fellows with colleagues and expert faculty (Fellows)
