Overview
Movement disorders are a complex and multifaceted group of illnesses affecting the nerve cells in the brain. Symptoms includes involuntary movements, muscle rigidity, slowness, changes in speech and gait. Most commonly encountered in the clinical setting is Parkinson’s Disease (PD). According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, nearly one million people in the US are living with PD today and another 60,000 Americans will be diagnosed every year. Given that each PD patient is unique, clinicians may not know about all the treatment options or know which therapy is best suited for each patient. To help address this need, expert faculty will discuss challenges and opportunities for clinicians and healthcare professionals managing patients with PD and other types of movement disorders, including current and emerging medical and surgical advances that can be implemented to slow disease progression and improve patients’ quality of life.
