Overview
The 2024 Epilepsy Update Conference will bring together some of the top epilepsy specialists from around California and the country to update our community on new information regarding the diagnosis and treatment of patient with epilepsy. This symposium will provide education on the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy to improve referrals pattern to specialized epilepsy centers as well as improve the diagnosis of epilepsy in patients being seen in the community so all patients can be given the correct diagnosis and receive the best treatment rapidly for their diagnosis which results in the best quality of life.

Objectives
  1. Review the appropriate treatment protocol for a child with drug resistant epilepsy
  2. Recall the definition of SUDEP
  3. Describe the current understanding of the causes and possible preventions of SUDEP
  4. Review how surgery can decrease the rates of SUDEP
  5. Review the use of RNS in the treatment of epilepsy in adults
  6. Describe the use of thalamic RNS in the treatment of epilepsy
  7. Review the current uses of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of epilepsy
  8. Describe the uses of the new VNS in the treatment of epilepsy
  9. Describe the process of selection the appropriate neuromodulation device for a person with epilepsy
  10. Describe the process of selection the appropriate neuromodulation device for a person with epilepsy
  11. Review the use of laser ablation in the treatment of epilepsy
  12. Describe the treatment gap in epilepsy and ways to improve access to care
